Welcome Back, Bookworms!
Can you believe that half of 2021 is over?! It’s hard to believe that summer is here and all the book lists are full of “beach” reads! People are traveling and visiting and going out for drinks and dinner again.
Do you have a Bookstagram?
I do! It started as a page for my Little Free Library, then I changed the name to Orange County Readers and focused on OC Authors and Events. In May 2021, I “rebranded” to The OC BookGirl and finally feel like I’ve found something that really suits me and my vision for the page.
Love/Hate
Most of you already know the pros and cons of Bookstagram. How the book community is kind and generous but the amount of time spent mindlessly scrolling is boggling! How accessible and friendly most authors are but then there’s the FOMO over book-mail and paid sponsorships. There are heated debates over audiobooks and physical versus ebook. There are thousands of hashtags devoted to a single romance trope. Do you tag an author or not? Do you use a star-rating or not? Do you hold giveaways? Do you pay for ads? There are so many facets and things to think about!
The Power of Manifestation
Manifestation is essentially the act of feeling something is yours and making it real. When you manifest something, you’re making it known to the universe that this thing — whether it’s a dream job or a new car — will be yours.
So here goes…

Let’s be realistic…
I don’t think that anything magical is going to happen when I reach 10,000 followers. I don’t expect a parade or balloons (well actually that’s not true… Have you seen all the 10K celebrations? It’s almost a requirement! You have to have balloons!)
But what I mean is — I don’t expect very much to change when I hit that magic number. Yes, I’ll be able to add links to my stories but I get so few viewers on my stories that it would take 100 years to make any money. Also, I already get waaaay more books than I can possibly read so I don’t need more books. I have been very fortunate to build up a list of trusted PR companies, author and publishers that I work with regularly.
The way I look at it is; there are six months left in the year and I really enjoy marketing and the “science” behind social media and people’s behaviors. Let’s see what happens when I follow the “expert’s” advice — at the very least I’ll be engaging more and sharing what I find along the way with you!
