January 2019 Review

In January
it’s so nice
while slipping
on the sliding ice
to sip hot chicken soup with rice.
Sipping once
Sipping twice.”

January 2019

We’ve made it through January and book-wise we’re off to an auspicious start!

How was your reading month? Did you have any 5 Star reads? I read 1️⃣7️⃣ Books and had 2️⃣ DNFs which was disappointing. but it’s okay because not every book is for everyone, right?!

I posted 1️⃣1️⃣ Book Reviews (Links go to my reviews.)

Watching You | Educated | An Anonymous Girl | I’ll Be There For You | True Places | The Dreamers | The Songbird | Mourning Dove | Maid | The Wartime Sisters | The Suspect | The Lost Girls of Paris | What Doesn’t Kill Her

1️⃣4️⃣ Fiction 3️⃣ Nonfiction

TOTAL 🆕 POSTS 3️⃣5️⃣

January was a good month for reading! I had THREE five star reads and I don’t think I can pick a favorite…

I caught up with 7️⃣ Netgalley books and ten of my own books so that’s a win! #readwhatyouown

Can you believe it? I was lucky to receive 2️⃣2️⃣ physical ARCs, gifts and purchases. Thank you authors, publishers and friends!

In other news, I’m using the Bookly app (+goodreads) to keep track of my reading this year. (I’m a sucker for a cool infographic.) You can see how many pages you’ve read, your reading speed and lots more. I see I managed to carve out 63 hours of reading last month… Highly recommend!

  1. I’m taking part in a few reading challenges and I’m starting them in February. January has been a bit slow for me on the reading front. I read like 3 books

  2. I was able to read 21 books (mostly bc I am a terrible insomniac)!
Loved The Dreamers, (5 star) The Girls at 17 Swann Street (5 star) and The Lost Girls of Paris. (4.5 stars)
I also read The Wartime Sisters, (which I was a tad disappointed in) Next Year in Havana, and which were good. I was not a fan of Educated (I know I am a definite outlier there) and really did not like The Suspect (it was a bit too much for me to believe) I have The Daughter of Molokai coming up this week, and I also have received an arc of the sequel to Next Year in Havana.

I am excited to read No Exit with my book pal, as well as We Must Be Brave, and The Current in February along with a reread of The Heart’s Invisible Furries.

Have not read Sadie yet nor the Eleanor book, but I do plan to.
    Happy reading, Jaymi!
