We are so happy to be part of BookSparks “Magic of Memoir” blog tour. We will be reading and reviewing five very different memoirs over the next two months.
Our third book on the blog tour is a really interesting and eye-opening title.
After reading ONCE YOU GO IN by Carly Gelsinger you will be able to imagine how difficult it was for her to relive her experiences with a radical Pentecostal sect. Writing a memoir must be an incredibly vulnerable experience yet she writes with such bravery and compassion.
About the Book:
Carly Gelsinger is an awkward and lonely thirteen-year-old when she stumbles into Pine Canyon Assemblies of God, the cracked stucco church on the outskirts of her remote small town in California. She assimilates, despite her apprehensions, because she is desperate to belong. Soon, she is on fire for God. She speaks in tongues, slays demons, and follows her abusive pastor’s every word―and it’s not until her life is burnt to the ground that she finds the courage to leave.
Raw and illuminating, Once You Go In is a coming-of-age tale about the beauty and danger of absolute faith, and the stories people tell themselves to avoid their deepest fears.
About the Author
Carly Gelsinger lives in California with her husband and two daughters. She holds a master’s in journalism and runs a small business helping people write their stories. This is her first book.
Thank you to Courtney at BookSparks for coordinating this amazing blog tour. We only have two more books to go! Stay tuned.
