Happy Monday Friends!
How was your week/weekend? Feeling like 🍁Fall🍂 where you are? I’m trying to wear sweaters and socks and drink pumpkin spiced lattes….but once the sun burns through around 10 am it’s like ‘take it all off I’m roasting’! The temps this week are: 78, 81, 86, 89, 83 and 79 this weekend! 🤦🏻♀️
In book news, September has been a banner month! I should finish out the month with 13-15 books read! I finished 5 books (click link for full review) with quite a variety in genre. Non-fiction, Young Adult, Suspense, Paranormal….
Almost Missed You, Jessica Strawser ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Strong start, disappointing conclusion.
The Dream Daughter, Diane Chamberlain
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
All the stars. I eat my words. How could I ever doubt Ms. Chamberlain’s ability to captivate and transport the reader?!
The Witch of Willow Hall, Hester Fox
⭐️⭐️⭐️.5
A well done debut novel, perfect for getting in the fall spirit. (Hahaha). Witches and ghosts and romantic brooding leading men.
The Selection, Kiera Cass
⭐️⭐️⭐️.5
Dystopian YA romance. Prince Maxon needs a wife and each district must send a representative to act as his dating pool. This society has a caste system with One being the highest. America Singer is a FIVE and is chosen as one of the final Elite. Out of 35 girls, it’s down to six! Entertaining and quick read. Has anyone read the whole series? Is it worth continuing?
Gross Anatomy, Mara Altman
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This one was a doozy! This author has zero filter as she explores all the wonderful parts of being a woman. She has done her research and asks a multitude of experts to answer questions about society’s obsession with being hairless and what’s up with the “toe”?! She also visits a nudist camp with her mom which was pretty endearing!
No subject is too personal. She discusses them all!
On Screen 📺 :
A Simple Favor ⭐️
I went to this movie on my own and mostly because of Anna Kendrick. I left feeling disappointed. It started out well enough with Anna playing a mommy vlogger and Blake Lively playing this over-the-top well dressed, mysterious working mom. Their kids bond and so the moms decide to day drink and trade secrets. You know, as you do. From there it just gets weird as Blake’s character disappears and Anna gets waaaay too involved in her friend’s life. People have said it’s black comedy but it just seemed cheesy and miscast.
You: 2nd episode ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Poor Benji. Did you think he wouldn’t do it? You don’t know Joe.
This week I have THREE AUTHOR EVENTS! I can’t wait to share all the pics and details.
Here are the books I’m hoping to read this week:
I’ve had a lot of votes for Emma over on Instagram. The Life Lucy Knew was a surprise belated birthday gift. And of course…#slaughtersquad peeps. You know how it is. I’m savoring the anticipation.
I’m also doing a Wuthering Heights read-a-long with @BronteForever. Join us! Read to chapter 7 by Friday. #bronteforeverWH
As usual I’ve been neglecting my Kindle and NetGalley. If you could pick one for me to read, which one would you recommend?
