Got books? Come and get your fresh 2019 Reading Challenges!
Let’s take a look at some of the 2019 Book Challenges out there. How do you feel about them? Yay or nay? Can you be a mood reader and still complete one?
I’m looking forward to joining a few of the following challenges. I want to make some progress on the many, many books I already own, as well as meeting new, like-minded book friends! We found some big and small challenges – if you’re running one for 2019, please let us know!
Kathryn at The Book Date is doing a Connect Five Books Reading Challenge. I’m already thinking about books that connect… (all the same author, all set in the same place, all by debut authors, etc) and once I have five, I’ll write a Connect Five Post.
POPSUGAR is doing their annual challenge. You can see my post here with all the books I’m interested in reading for each of the 40 prompts.
Kendra and Autumn from the Reading Women Podcast have an excellent list of challenges for the year.
BookRiot also has a yearlong Read Harder Challenge. They encourage readers to pick up passed-over books, try out new genres, and choose titles from a wider range of voices and perspectives.
Herding Cats is hosting the Blog All About It 2019 Challenge. Basically, there’s a word each month and any time during the month you can blog about that word. In any way you want (review, recipe, photos, stories, etc.)
Megan and Crystal at TheGingerMom want to read through the alphabet with the 2019 A to Z Reading Challenge. It’s a great idea and the signup is here.
Angela at AngelsGuiltyPleasure is doing the 2019 Library Love Challenge. The goal is to support your local library and save some money!
Mommy Mannagren has a 52 Books in 52 Weeks challenge that looks good. The goals for this challenge are simple: stretch yourself out of your regular reading habits, read more, and have fun with it!
Sam over at Taking on a World of Words is reading books set during different years/eras throughout history for When Are You Reading 2019. This looks challenging!
Edited: I found more challenges that just couldn’t be ignored so here’s Part Two | 6 More Reader Challenges for 2019
QOTD: Which challenge looks interesting to you? Think you’ll participate in any?

These are all so creative and they all sound good, Jaymi! I love the idea behind the Connect Five and also Herding Cats’ idea sounds like it would be easy to do. I was thinking about joining the historical fiction challenge from Passages to the Past because it’s a given I’ll read a large number of histfic titles, but I covered myself in so many January and February ARCs, I’m worried about joining any challenges right now. I think 2020 will be my year for challenges. I’m such a commitment-phobe reader! 😂 I will most definitely be following your challenges and cheering you on, and I always find the posts about challenges interesting.

Thank you Jenni! I’m mostly excited to have a “direction” since I *somehow* accumulated a lot of books this year! 🤷🏻♀️ If I don’t focus, my little brain wanders. Plus I love a good list!

Also what’s the one arc you’re most excited about?

Oh gosh, only one? I’ll say Daisy and the Six, but I have SO many. I am pretty sure you already read that one and loved it? ♥️ p.s. I think I wrote another comment back but it might be in your spam folder?

I think you’ll ❤️ Daisy. It’s so unique. I did do a mini-review a while back – good memory!

That is the perfect rationale, Jaymi. Right now my only plans are ARCs due by pub date, so challenges in the future will help me address my mountains of books I own and I could definitely use that! ♥️ I would not know where to begin!

So many inspiring lists! I personally have set my eyes on the Reading Women challenge, especially since I want to read predominantly books about and by women, and I love their podcast! I never really do these yearly challenges usually, cause I’m not a very adventurous person. Hopefully in 2019 I can explore more varied books 😉

It’s all about what you want to do and have time for! I love Reading Women and hope to check off a few at least! Thanks for checking in 🎉🎉

I live for challenges — reading and blogging ones. I’m super pumped to do the Popsugar challenge, and I’m drafting the list of books for that challenge pretty soon. I decided to not do any women-related challenges because, already, most of the books I read are written by women… Oh! Did you see that Bookriot posted a massive Excel sheet for readers to write down their reads? It has several tabs and, honestly, they’ll be my lifesaver in 2019. It automatically does the math to see how many pages, books, own-voices, debuts (…) you’ve read over the year. It even turns it into cool-looking pie charts!!! I’m sorry for the statistics rant, but your blog post reminded me of it and I love sharing this sheet with other people 🙈

You sound like a list girl too! I love checking stuff off. And I LOVE stats too. I’m fascinated by them. I did see that spreadsheet… I adore spreadsheets but I hardly ever use a real computer and it’s too small on my phone. Maybe I’ll try it….

Also a fellow blogger has also created a wonderful tracking spreadsheet! A lot of work was put into it and I’ve seen several posts about it! https://readervoracious.com/2018/11/28/2019-spreadsheet-template/

Good to think you will join me with Connect Five books – that’s great Jaymi. I will do library one as well. And I like your comment about hoping to check off a few from the Reading Women podcast (which I must check 0ut). Sometimes we don’t have to take the full challenge but part of it does push us further in our reading. All the best with these.

Thanks Kathryn! I think your prompt is unique and thoughtful. I can’t be alone when consecutively read, non-related books all have the same character name or place or theme! And yes, I agree that you can’t put that kind of pressure on yourself to complete a challenge. I’ll be posting my first link up soon.
