    My first lines come from The Mother In Law by Sally Hepworth………

    I am folding laundry at my dining room table when the police car pulls up. There’s no fanfare— no sirens or flashing lights— yet that little niggle starts in the pit of my stomach, Mother Nature’s warning that all is not well.

    well, i can’t remember the first lines of the book i’m currently reading, but i know it caught my attention…. i’m reading these broken stars by Amie Kaufmen.

      • i just finished with the last page. And oh, what a read. Here is the first … few lines:
        NOTHING ABOUT THIS ROOM IS REAL. If this were a party at home, the music would draw your eye to human musicians in the corner. Candles and soft lamps would light the room, and the wooden tables would be made of actual trees. People would be listening to each other, instead of checking to see who’s watching them.
