It’s Monday! What Are You Reading?

Hello dear readers! Did you have a nice Thanksgiving? Did you eat too much?

I noticed a lot of posts about being sensitive to friends who may not have family or may feel overly stressed by the act of being with “toxic” relatives. It was sobering to think about. Just a reminder that you never know what someone’s going through. ❤️

November has been a busy month and we are wrapping up “Nonfiction November” a weekly event exploring all things nonfiction hosted by Julie (JulzReads), Sarah (Sarah’s Book Shelves), Katie (Doing Dewey), Rennie (What’s Nonfiction) and Kim (Sophisticated Dorkiness).

ICYMI: Week 1, Week 2, Week 3, Week 4

I’m excited for December and have been very busy pre-writing posts for #AMonthofFaves blog event hosted by  Girlxoxo, Traveling with T and Estella’s Revenge. To join in click here for more details.

Last week:

The Favorite Daughter was a netgalley arc by a favorite Orange County author, Kaira Rouda and it was FANTASTIC! It’s not out until May 2019 but here is my ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ mini-review:

Jane Harris is a complicated main character. She has been grieving the death of her daughter, Mary for a year and is finally ready to stop the meds and reconnect with her husband and her younger daughter Betsy who’s about to graduate HS.

Author Kaira Rouda has big talent when it comes to writing unreliable narrators. Similar to Paul in her last book Best Day Ever, Jane talks to the reader and works hard to prove what a considerate and thoughtful person she is. She’s a good wife and an involved parent.

No spoilers here so all I can say is you will be hooked and won’t be able to put this chilling and complex title down. Bravo to Kaira for another fantastic read!

I was pleasantly surprised by how much I loved The Christmas Sisters by Sarah Morgan. It was the perfect blend of romance, humor and family drama all set in the most perfect place. Full review to come.

Sadly I was disappointed with the John Grisham…haven’t read him in years and aside from one shocking scene, The Whistler was predictable and monotonous.

Not sure what I’ll be reading this week – such is the life of a mood reader! Another holiday read for sure.

I was lucky to receive ARCs of two books coming out next year. Click the links to preorder and find out more. Daughters of Molokai and The Silent Patient both look fantastic.

Which one would you pick? What’s your week look like?

  1. Nice looking assortment of books! I’m trying to be more of a mood reader in December. Come the new year, I’ll be back to my stacks of review books. Come see my week here. Happy reading!

  2. Love these reads, Jaymi! I have just started The Christmas Sisters, so happy to hear you liked it. I have the Rouda coming up (would never miss it either!), and would you believe I’ve not read Moloka’i? So I have that coming up to read in prep for Daughter!
