Happy Monday Friends! Did you watch any football 🏈? We did! We love fall Sundays around here. Now if we could just have some of that rain I keep hearing about! 🤔
Are you participating in #readwhatyouown hosted by A Novel Family? I lasted Six. Whole. Days. before I blithely skipped over to ThriftBooks and broke the buying ban (maybe the ban meant new books?!)….all for a book called Vacationland. Have you read it?
Books Finished Last Week:
I had a pretty good reading week last week! Finished The Dinner List, Okay Fine, Whatever and In Her Bones. (Links to full reviews).
Books To Read This Week:
This week I’m doing my first “buddy-read” with a new book friend in Missouri. We’re about 150 pages into The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society. I’m really enjoying it and can’t wait to see what happens in Part II when Juliet visits Guernsey 🇬🇬 after corresponding with the islanders. My reward after we finish? We’re watching the new Netflix adaptation! Here’s a great article on how they were able to adapt this particular book.
While I’m waiting for my buddy, I’ve started reading Beartown by Fredrik Bachman. It’s frequently mentioned as a must-read by book friends. It’s still the beginning and I’m learning the back stories. It’s about a small town hockey team trying to play the game they love while the grownups fight about coaching and money and the town’s future. It’s very different from Ove which was a favorite. I admire this author so much. If you’ve been touched by any of his books, I’d recommend visiting his website here.
I’m also re-reading Pillars of the Earth on the kindle. I’ve read it so many times and never tire of reading about Tom Builder and Kingsbridge and Knights and Monks. There’s a fascinating foreword by author Ken Follett on the 25th anniversary of the book. And an interview with Oprah here.
So what’s on your agenda today? What are you reading and do you love it? Tell me!
P. S. Today is my birthday! Click here for a fun giveaway over on my Instagram account.
#IMWAYR is a weekly meme hosted by Kathryn at The Book Date. It’s a great way to recap your weekend and plan your reading goals for the week ahead.
Wow! I’m impressed that you’ve read Pillars of the Earth more than once. I loved it, but am not big on rereads. I’m in the camp of everyone else who loved Beartown and i thought its sequel, Us Against You, was even better. I’m also a big fan of Backman!

It is finally raining here and I am loving it! Hopefully you get some soon as well.
I think The Dinner List sounds really good! And I want to read Guernsey. 🙂
Have a great week!

Beartown has been on my wishlist for a while. I’ll be curious to see what you think. I’ve never read Pillars of the Earth but have a few books that I read again and again too. Come see my week here. Happy reading!
