Book Review : “Darius the Great is Not Okay” by Adib Khorram

I won a copy of Adib Khorram @adibkhorram “DARIUS THE GREAT IS NOT OKAY” from @bookishhq and @penguinteen and thoroughly enjoyed it. It is a realistic and heartfelt story about friendship and family and fitting in.

I wasn’t sure what to expect and was pleasantly surprised to meet Darius and his family.  The author shares great insight into the Persian culture, language and food.  The relationship between Darius and his grandparents and his father and sister is special and he gets to know his extended family through unfamiliar customs and rituals.  He bonds with his Grandmother over his love of tea.  He also meets a friend who helps him through this rough time in a new place.  They play soccer/football and there is some Level 10 Awkward moments in the locker room.  Darius has always been teased by classmates and he can’t believe he’s found such a caring and generous friend who seems to understand him.

Out August 2018.
