My Thoughts:

Have you ever wanted to be an “ex-pat” or expatriate? Living abroad long-term sounds like such a cool way to really discover another country and become immersed in the culture. According to a Condé Nast article, the top 5 countries that have the best job security, quality schools and are the most tolerant and welcoming to outsiders are Switzerland, Singapore, Canada, Spain, and New Zealand!

Maggie White is living in Rome for the next two years due to her husband’s job and gets a job to “give her purpose”. When her insufferable boss at a travel agency that caters to wealthy Americans is murdered, she decides to launch an investigation. This was a fast-paced read that was light and funny as Maggie navigates Rome as an amateur detective. The author really brought the beauty of Italy to life and the food descriptions had me salivating!

“Outdoor markets are a charming slice of everyday Roman life. Locals exchange gossip, choose from an array of fresh meats and produce, and banter with the decedents of the very vendors their grandparents patronized. Masterpiece Tours ‘Welcome to Rome’ pamphlet.”

About The Book

Maggie White, a downsized American executive stuck in Rome on her husband’s ex-pat assignment, is finding the dolce vita isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. She’s taken a job offering painting instruction to well-heeled travelers on a luxury tour and her boss—a rather unpleasant English lord—has turned up dead in his penthouse. Maggie’s left with a palazzo full of suspicious guests, a valuable painting her boss might have stolen, and a policeman who’s decided she’s the prime suspect. Now Maggie must keep the tour up and running while she tracks the killer and works to clear her name.

  1. Yes, the beauty of Rome and the descriptions were the best part of the book! I just wanted to shake Maggie at times, though.

  2. I think of those top 5, I’d like to live in Canada or New Zealand… if I had to pick. 😉 Thank you for being on this tour! Sara @ TLC Book Tours
