My Thoughts:

The magic of Kerry’s books is in the characters she creates. Liz Lightsey is one of those characters that resonated with me. She’s a middle-aged pastor’s wife and an important part of the close-knit community. She always says and does the right thing and she’s well aware of her expected role as Thomas’s wife – obedient, compliant, subservient.

What no one sees is his verbal abuse and mental manipulation, because everyone assumes he is a holy, benevolent man. Liz has lived for years with his cruelty and degrading treatment.

After his unexpected (and not unwelcome) death – the real challenge begins when Liz has to face her truth and stop listening to the voices of self-doubt and insecurity in her head. She gets the chance to live a second, more authentic life but it’s not without its own challenges.

I loved reading her journal entries to “Inner Liz” and how she was gradually able to shed her “Elizabeth” persona to become Liz. I cheered for all her victories and loved how encouraging and supportive her friend Val was.

Bravo to Kerry for writing such an inspiring story of second chances and self-discovery and personal growth. Written with humor and heart and a cat named Moses – this was another amazing, five-star title from this author. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Publishers Description

From the Amazon Charts bestselling author of Whisper Me This comes an emotional and sharply witty novel about how life’s unexpected detours can ultimately bring you home.

For twenty-six years Liz has perfectly played the part of Mrs. Thomas Lightsey, exemplary pastor’s wife and mother. But maintaining appearances for the congregation and catering to her demanding husband takes a toll, and she’s lost herself in meeting the expectations of others. When Thomas suddenly dies, Liz feels shock, grief, and, to her surprise, the siren song of freedom. Dare she dream of a life to call her own?

Despite the resistance of her daughter, Abigail, to even the smallest changes, Liz lands a role at the community theater. Inspired by new friends and the character she plays, she explores life’s possibilities, including an unexpected—and steamy—relationship with her leading man.

Just when Liz thinks she might be winning, life hits her with an unthinkable shock. She’s pregnant at forty-nine. Torn between conflicting loyalties to her daughter, her lover, her unborn baby, and herself, can Liz find a way to rebuild her dream life one more time?
